SUNIL THECKATH Partner - Investments

Michael Borom heads the operating Team at TH Lee. Till recently, Michael co-managed Impala Partners; a nationally recognized turnaround, restructuring and financial advisory firm, which he co-founded in 1996. He served as Chief Financial Officer of Aetna’s Property/Casualty Business prior to Impala. Michael was responsible for restructuring Aetna’s middle market business and addressing environmental and asbestos issues in addition to managing the financial and actuarial functions.

Michael spent 15 years with GE and GE Capital, working in a variety of positions. His experience covers being Chief Financial Officer of GE Capital’s Mortgage Insurance and Servicing business, and also managing financial planning and analysis for all of GE Capital, reporting directly to Jim Parke, Chief Financial Officer and Gary Wendt, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE Capital.

As a member of the Workout Group at GE Capital, Michael supervised the restructuring of several problem investments, including overseeing the turnaround of the world’s largest outdoor advertising company, which meant implementing cost reduction and sales restructuring programs and serving as interim manager. He was also instrumental in arranging the Chapter 11 liquidation of a New York City distribution and “rack jobber” and coordinating the merger of a regional retailer in Chapter 11 with another retailer serving markets in close proximity.

Michael served for five years on GE’s Corporate Audit Staff (GE’s internal troubleshooting consulting unit), where he was responsible for major initiatives (including turnaround and strategic refocusing) at GE’s Aircraft Engine, Aerospace, Lighting, Power Systems and Appliance Businesses. He began his career at GE’s Corporate Research & Development Center, eventually moving to the Aerospace and Advanced Energy businesses.

Michael holds a degree in Mathematics from Colgate University.
